The Dr. John Imhoff Outstanding Research Publication Award
University of Arkansas Chapter of Sigma Xi, Honors Research Society

The Outstanding Research Publication Award was established through a generous gift from Dr. John Imhoff. Dr. Imhoff, Professor Emeritus in Industrial Engineering, who served as founding department head (1951-1980) for Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He also served as president of the UA chapter of Sigma Xi from 1985-1986. The Imhoff Award recognizes the research contributions of faculty at the University of Arkansas who are also members of Sigma Xi. The endowment provides for an annual cash award (currently $1000 less withholding) to the professor who has published the most outstanding manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal during the preceding year.

For consideration, a faculty member author who is a member of the chapter must nominate their paper through submission of a high-quality copy of the final manuscript (as reprint or pre-print), along with a cover letter describing the significance of the work. Manuscripts must have been published or been accepted for publication within the 12 months preceding nomination. Nominations may include up to two letters of support from recognized authorities in the particular field of research to emphasize impact. Faculty members are limited to one submission per year and must document consent from all co-authors for submission for this award. The competitiveness of a nomination is enhanced by complete and thorough documentation attesting to the significance of the manuscript. The award is based solely on the content and impact of the publication and is not related to teaching, mentoring, or service by the faculty member. Extraneous information and documentation will only detract from the nomination. All nomination materials will be returned following presentation of the award.

The faculty member must be a member in good standing  with the University of Arkansas Chapter of Sigma Xi throughout the preceding calendar year. Materials should be forwarded to the Chapter President. The annual deadline for nominations is March 21.

Awardees attend the Annual Banquet during the spring semester as guests of the Chapter and it is at this occasion that the award will be presented.
